A few km from the popular surfing paradise, Nahoon Reef, and Virgin Active gymnasium.

Within 2km of East London’s finest restaurants
Within 3km of the central business district of East London

The East London area and surrounds also offer the following activities (tours and excursions can be arranged by Bunker on Bailie on request)

East London is the gateway city to the popular Eastern Cape tourist routes known as the Sunshine Coast, Wild Coast, and Friendly N6.

Please note that Bunker on Bailie can arrange a return driving service after a night out on request for those who need it. Terms and conditions apply. East London is part of the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality and lies on the East Coast of South Africa in a temperate climate zone. Jemima’s Hospitality Guest Lodge is situated in the prestigious suburb of Bunkers Hill. We are easily accessible from the airport via the Esplanade.

Government & Business

East London is also the manufacturing hub for Mercedes Benz, Nestle, Natural Products, and many more industries who have established a presence at the Industrial Development Zone, who ship products from South Africa’s only river port situated at the mouth of the Buffalo River, by air from the East London Airport and through an extensive road and rail network.

Access To Tourism

Tourists arrive in East London predominantly by road or through scheduled flights from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. East London is the Gateway City to the following tourism routes, namely The Wild Coast, The African Sunshine Coast and the Friendly N6. There are a number of other smaller tourism routes which are offshoots of these main routes to explore as day trips. These include the Amatole Mountain Escape Route where the hamlet of Hogback was said to to inspire Tolkens famous “Lord of the Rings”, The Escape Route around the town of Stutterheim, The Jikeleza Route ( translated means to take a stroll around – which is misleading due to the extensive range of interests on this local route 35 km away) which offers a delightful array of attractions. These include adventure products, game farms, rose growers and others.

The heritage routes of Makana, Maqoma and Sandile provide valuable insight into the birth of this area. Culturally we are on the map as well and have many events that draw national audiences such as the annual Bulela La Khaya Jazz Festival.

Sport

East London is also home to sports enthusiasts of many descriptions. We are acknowledged as the home of boxing in South Africa, have one of South African best aquatic centres (The Joan Harrison Complex – named after East London’s Olympic Goal medallist), host an exceptional Cricket stadium (Buffalo Park) and of course have enthusiastic local soccer and rugby leagues. Our road running fraternity are very successful and we have a number of events that take place regularly. Our own surfers marathon, an 18km race between road runners and surf ski’s is unique and has many thousands of entrants.

Two sports really put East London on the broadcast map. The Half Iron Man Triathlon which takes place each January and draws competitors from many countries in the world and the East London Grand Prix racing all receive extensive television coverage. We also have a number of National Cricket matches covered as well. All take place within a ten minute drive of Jemima’s Hospitality Guest House.

Beaches

Of course nobody can deny that East London is home to some of South african most scenic beaches. The Eastern Beach is closest, but it’s only a five minute drive to the world famous Nahoon Beach, a surfers paradise. the Gonubie beach and boardwalk is also a mere 20 minutes away. So if you fancy a dip in the sea or a variety of long relaxing scenic walks, talk to us to make the perfect choice.

Restaurants – Pubs & Entertainment

East London has a few choice restaurants and the usual range of family restaurants. Vincent Park Shopping Centre is a few minutes drive away and you can find perennial family favourites such as the Mugg and Bean, Ocean Basket and Spur.

In closer proximity the cosmopolitan Buccaneers (affectionately know as Bucc’s) and Cafe Neo will provide a vibe atmosphere. If upmarket is your thing then Grazia’s or La Vida is probably more suited. Both offer excellent cuisine and sweeping sea views.

So whatever your reason is for visiting East London, Jemima’s Hospitality Guest Lodge is a great place to make your base. We hope to make your stay even enjoyable.
